For someone that spends a lot of late nights hacking away at work, late night TV often serves as background noise. More often than not, it also turns into quite a distraction. That’s what would usually happen whenever Deon Cole would do a bit on Conan. Deon’s sketches on Conan are usually hilarious, which is no surprise that he has been given his own weekly show, Black Box.
Just as he did on Conan, Deon pokes fun at pop culture from a “black point of view”. On the show Deon takes on topics of the day such as Paula Deen, Christian Fitness and watermelon Oreos, from a chair placed next to a TV screen. The bits are funny and all, but the funniest moments in the show usually come from Deon randomly commenting on things such as the use of a record scratching sound effects, “You know it’s black if there’s record scratching”, and his interactions with the audience.
